Mooretown Flags Take a Point in First Game in New Year

The Mooretown Flags earned a single point Friday night in Lakeshore after losing 5 - 4 in overtime against the Canadiens.
 

The Flags had a 2 - 1 lead at the end of the first period with Sam Jasmin scoring just 38 seconds into the game and went on and added his 10th goal of the season at 5:30.  Cameron MacDougal lit the red light for Lakeshore at 17:09.

 

In the second Team Captain Dan Lumley scored his 9th of the season to widen the lead 3 - 1 but the Canadiens battled back and scored 2 back to back goals to even the score after two periods of play.  Nick Tavolieri and Mejoe Gasparovic scored for Lakeshore.

 

Powerful blueliner Matt Brandon regained the lead at 1:19 in the third scoring the only power play goal in the game but midway in the period Brenden Crundwell scored for Lakeshore to even the score that held and the period ended and the game went into over time.

 

It took 2 minutes of play to decide the game winner as Nick Tavolieri scored his second of the night to earn the win for Lakeshore.

 

Lakeshore out shot the Flags 39 - 27.  Brandon Johnson suffered the loss despite making 34 saves.  John Jeffries earned the win with 23 saves.

 

The Mooretown boys denied Lakeshore on four power play opportunities.  Mooretown scored once on three chances.

 

The Flags remain in 8th spot with a record of 9-19-3-0. 

Mooretown returns to action tonight (Saturday January 3) when they host  Wheatley (16-13-0-2) at 7:30 pm at the Mooretown Sports Complex.
