Mooretown Flags Solid at Home

The Mooretown Flags took a solid
5-2 win at home Saturday night
over the Wheatley Sharks in the
first game of the home/home
series in Great Lakes Jr. C
Hockey action.
Wheatley opened the scoring with
the only goal in the first
period at 16:10 by Scott
Florence.
In the second Mooretown and
Wheatley shared power play goals
the first by the Flags at 8:48
by Ryan Lyle and at 9:55 the
Kings Michael Travis scored.
Still in the second period Dan
Lumley tied the game at 13:27
and 3 minutes later Brett
Thompson scored what turned out
to be the game winning goal.
Third period action saw Ben
Morrison widen the lead at 6:23
and Sam Jasmin cap it off
scoring at 14:39.
Brandon Johnson earned his 8th
win of the season turning away
18 of 20 shots. Conner MacKinnon
suffered the loss despite making
39 saves on 44 shots.
Mooretown took just one penalty
throughout the game that cost
them one goal. Wheatley was
handed 32 minutes on eight
infractions that gave the Flags
six power play opportunities.
The Flags are now 10-19-3-0 for
23 points, 10 points ahead of
last place Wallaceburg Lakers
(5-23-0-3) and 7 points behind
Dresden (14-16-2-0).
The Flags return to action next
Saturday Jan 10 for the second
game of the home/home series
against the Sharks in Wheatley
who are in 4th spot with a
record of 16-14-0-2.
