Mooretown Flags Do It In Shoot Out

In Great Lakes
Jr. C Hockey league action the
Mooretown Flags hosted the
Lakeshore Canadiens (formally
Belle River) and came from
behind and went on to win 4 - 3
in shoot out.
First period saw
Lakeshore take a 2 - 0 lead.
Sebastian Kannally and Brenden
Crundwell scored in the first.
Joe Stock scored his first goal
of the season at 4:54 assisted
by Sam Jasmin to narrow the gap.
Late in the period the Flags
were on a power play and after a
bad bounce at the point the puck
was picked up by Sebastian
Kanally who skated in to score
his second of the night short
handed. The Canadiens led
3 - 1 heading into the third.
In the third Justin Vanbuskirk
scored assisted by blueliner
Matt Brandon to narrow the gap
once again and at 15:54 Ryan
Lyle tied things up with Sam
Jasmin and Matt Brandon earning
the assist. Time ran out
that sent the game into a five
minute overtime where nothing
was solved and the two teams set
up for shoot out.
#3 Ryan Lyle
scored tying goal and one in
shoot out, #19 Justin Melo
scored game winner.
It became a
battle at the posts with both
netminders stopping their first
two shooters. Third
shooters for both sides were
successful with Canadiens Colin
Sartor and Flags Ryan Lyle
keeping things alive.
Brandon Johnson stopped the
Canadiens fifth shooter and
Justin Melo found the opening to
give the Flags the win.
Lakeshore outshot
the Flags 40 - 32. In net
Johnson earned the win making 37
saves. Colin Tetreault
suffered the loss with 28 saves.
Mooretown killed off all four
Canadiens power plays that
included one that lasted seven
minutes. The Flags went
scoreless on five opportunities.
Brandon Johnson
earned first star of the night
for his outstanding play in net.
Justin Melo winning goal earned
him the second star and
Canadiens Sebastian Kanally two
goal game earned third star.
The Flags record is now 2-4-1
and they look to improve that
record on Saturday when they
host another tough competitor
the Essex 73's. Game time
is set for 7:30pm at the Moore
Sports Complex.
