Mooretown Flags Downed by Dresden

Mooretown Flags suffered a 6 - 4 loss at home Saturday night against the Dresden Kings in Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey league action.

In the first period Dresden's Dillon Liberty scored the first goal at 4:47 unassisted. Flags defenceman Matt Brandon shot a rocket from the blueline for the Flags at 9:50 to equal the score.



In the second Sam Jasmin scored the first goal assisted by Ryan Lyle to give Mooretown their only lead in the game.  Dresden followed with two goals by Will Tetzlaff and Ross Krieger.  Jasmin scored his second of the night on a power play with Justin Vanbuskirk and Shawn Moulis picking up the assists.  After two periods of play score was tied at 3 apiece.

In the third Dresden regained the lead scoring :54 seconds into the period then added a second at 3:11 to take a 5 - 3 lead

#16 Ethan Dupont playing in his first Jr C league game scored an unassisted goal for the Flags to narrow the gap at 7:01 but the Kings added to the numbers with a goal at 11:52.  Despite pulling their goalie, the Flags were denied and took the loss.

Dresden outshot the Flags 48 - 36.  Riley Collins playing in his first Jr C league game made 42 saves in the loss.  Steven Taylor earned the win for Dresden making 32 saves.

Mooretown took fourteen penalty minutes on seven infractions Dresden tallied twenty four minutes on nine.

The Flags scored one power play goal on eight opportunities, Dresden went zero on six chances.

The Flags are back in action tonight and look to better their 1 - 2 - 0 record with a win in Amherstburg.(3- 2- 0)

NOTES:

  • Team Captain Dan Lumley was taken by ambulance to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder.  Coach Gino Vitalla was not available for further comments after the game to confirm the status of his injury.
  • David Addley also left the game early for a lower body injury.
  • Dillon Liberty of Dresden was named first star of the night, Flags Sam Jasmin was second and Ross Krieger of Dresden third.
