Indians Survive Early Scare

The Alvinston Indians played host to the St. Thomas Storm on Thursday evening, in front of another decent crowd in Alvinston. The Indians needed this win, to continue battling for first place in the St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League.

The Indians sent Brad Young to the mound, and the veteran pitcher was touched up early in the top of the first inning, courtesy of a two run homerun by Jamie Peat. With St. Thomas up 2-0 early, the Indians would need to claw back.

In the bottom of the third inning, the bottom of the order got things going for Alvinston, when Alix Chisholm doubled to lead off the inning, and Aaron Stocking followed by clubbing an RBI triple to score Chisholm. Andy Triest then walked, to put runners on first and third, and Joe Triest followed with an RBI single to score Stocking, to knot the game at two's. Jamie Shields then followed the hit parade by singling to score A. Triest for the go ahead run. Then, Chris Drew put Alvinston in control of the game, by hammering a first pitch offering over the right centrefield fence, for a three run bomb, and a 6-2 lead for the Indians. The first our of the inning was recorded, and then Jeff Lyons followed with a solo homerun of his own, for a seven run third inning for Alvinston. In the fourth inning, Alvinston would add one more run when Stocking doubled into the gap, advanced to third base via a wild pitch, and then A. Triest singled up the middle to score Stocking, and to give the Indians a commanding 8-2 lead.

Brad Young settled down for Alvinston, and after the first inning, he allowed one hit the rest of the way, en route to the important win. Over seven innings of work, Young allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits, with 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Alvinston's offence was able to count 11 hits on the evening, including two home runs. Next up for Alvinston, is games on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. On Tuesday, they are in Morpeth for an 8:00pm start, and on Thursday, the Indians conclude their regular season, with a game at home against Springfield, at 8:00pm.
