Wallaceburg Lakers Reign over the Kings

Two empty net goals in the final minutes gave the Lakers a 9 - 5 win over the Dresden Kings in Great Lakes Jr C Hockey League action on Wed before 354 home town fans.

 

Matt Rabideau of the Brampton Battalion and Seth Griffith of the London Knights were on hand to open the game for the ceremonial faceoff.

 

The two teams were even with three goals each heading in the third period.  Both sides scored a single goal in the first and then added two in the second.  Joe Daly, Sam Jasmin and Scott Lubbers scored for the Lakers.  Andrew France scored the first goal for Dresden. Jesse Allen scored the second shorthanded and Jeremy Griffore tied things up on the power play.

 

In the third period Wallaceburg scored four consecutive goals with Justin Whitson scoring three goals and Brennan Rainey a single.  Dresden fought back with a single by Dylan Mertz and were down 7 - 4 when they pulled their goalie in the final minutes.  Sam Jasmin scored both empty netters for Wallaceburg.  Dresden continued to fight back and added a final goal at 18:26.

 

Dresden outshot Wallaceburg 55 - 36.  Outstanding performance by Joel Sowinski earning the win in net for the Lakers with 50 saves.  Brent Paxton and Kaylobe Derynck shared duties in the loss.

 

The Lakers have one more game before Christmas when they travel to Wheatley on Sunday Dec 23 for an afternoon game beginning at 3:30 pm.
