Greater Ontario Hockey League Held Their Top Prospect Game

Monday December 31, 2012

The Greater Ontario Hockey League held their Top Prospect game on Sunday hosted by the Midwestern Conference at the Kinsmen Arena in Kitchener. The 2012-13 Top Prospects Game features the best student athletes in the Ontario Hockey Associations GOJHL.

Each year for the Top Prospects Game the GOJHL partners with a charitable organization to help out a worthy cause. The Midwestern Conference has selected to donate to the Frank Santarossa Scholarship fund. Each year, a select group of players who have received outstanding academic achievements while playing in the GOJHL are honored with this scholarship set up in the name of the late Frank Santarossa.  Frank was a young aspiring hockey player with the Cambridge Winter Hawks in 1986. He lost his life in a tragic car accident on December 26th of that same year. Now in its 24th year, the scholarship has raised close to $70,000 in contributions to players from the GOJHL.

Included in the lineup for Team White (players from Midwestern Conference and Western Conference)  were Sarnia Legionnaires players Davis Boyer and Matt Cimetta.  Team Blue included players representing  Midwestern Conference and Golden Horseshoe Conference.

Team White dominated over Team Blue and won with a final score of 8 - 1.  Team White scored three unanswered goals in the first and second period to take a 6 - 0 lead heading into the third then added 2 more in the third.  Goal scorers in the game was led by Nick Boyer (Strathroy) with three goals.  Shan O'Brien (Stratford) added a pair and singles by Davis Boyer (Sarnia), Tyler Duarte (Strathroy) and Michael Verboom (Chatham).  John DeLorenzo (Port Colborne) scored the lone goal for Team Blue.
