The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major Atom MD finished off the regular season with a loss against the London Bandits on Thursday February 9 at the Germain Arena.
The Bandits played an inspired game and started out with a quick goal just one minute into the contest. Sarnia would tie up the game with six minutes left in the first as Collin Zimmer scored from Spencer Baillie. London would score once more in the first to restore their one goal lead.
Sarnia would not convert on any of their chances in the second period while the visitors would add two goals. In the third the Bandits goalie would make some spectacular saves keeping the score at 4 – 1 until the 2:41 mark when Collin Zimmer scored his second of the contest from Greg Ross. On the next shift Nathan Oliphant would put the Jr. Sting within one on a nice feed from Ian Bailey.
The home team would pull Stevie Schaefer to the bench in favor of the extra attacker, however, it would not be enough this night as the Bandits hung on to win 4-3.
The Jr. Sting finish the regular season firmly in second place with 19 wins 4 losses and 2 ties, just behind the London Nationals.
The Major Atom MD will now enter a play down schedule to determine seeding for the Hockey Alliance of Ontario MD West Playoffs.
Sarnia will start with Stratford on Sunday February 12 at the Clearwater Arena. Puck drops at 12:00 noon.
