Point Edward Blackhawks PeeWees Beat Cougars 8-0
January 21, 2012

The Point Edward PeeWee Blackhawks travelled to Komoka to play the Mt Brydges(Blue) team and came away with a 8-0 win in Lambton-Middlesex league action.

From the opening puck drop, the game was going to be a physical one and within two minutes both teams had players in the sin-bin on roughing calls. The Point didn`t let the physical play distract them as they got two goals within 10 seconds of each other from Hocking and Smith to take an early 2-0 lead. The Cougars knew that penalties were going to hurt them and staying out of the penalty box helped them keep it 2-0 after one period of play.

The second period saw the Hawks take control of the game. One minute into the period, Bryce Potvin ripped a shot from the blue line to make it 3-0. Best made it 4-0 and drew a elbowing penalty that saw Riddell quickly convert the power play to a 5-0 lead. Late in the period, the Cougars took two head contact penalties and it hurt them with the Hawks getting two more from Laframboise and Riddell to make it 7-0 going into the third.

The third saw the Cougars get frustrated and saw them hit the penalty box four times in five minutes. The Hawks managed one last goal by Best before the game was called due to time.

Reinders and Lindhout shared the duties in net for the win and shut-out.

Two Third Period Goals Give Point Edward PeeWee Blackhawk’s 2-1 Win
January 28, 2012

The Point Edward PeeWee Blackhawks travelled to Lucan in Lambton-Middlesex league action and came away with a well deserved and hard fought 2-1 victory.

Action in the first period was end-to-end with both teams defense playing a critical role in not allowing the forwards from either team anywhere near the net. Midway through the period, Lucan hit the board first on a screen shot to make it 1-0. The remainder of the period was evenly matched.

The second period saw Lucan put on the pressure but the Point defense played strong and didn’t give the Lucan forwards any second opportunities to extend their lead. At the midway point of the period, the Hawks began their offensive push  but Lucan played defensively and protected their one goal lead. As the period was coming to a close, both teams were getting tired as action was pretty fast paced through two periods of play.

The Hawks managed to gain the momentum early in the third when Terpstra took a shot on net that was tipped by Best and trickled by a sprawling Lucan goalie to tie the game at 1-1. At the 9 minute mark of the period, Reinders came up big and kept it tied at 1-1 when Lucan was able to get a breakaway. Shortly thereafter, Lamore dumped the puck into the corner and Young passed it out to an open Noah Best who put it in the top shelf to give the Hawks the lead. Lucan tried for the remainder of the period to get the tying goal but the Hawks defense and forechecking kept the Lucan team away from the Hawks end and give them the important 2-1 win.
