Sarnia Jr Sting Major Atom MD shut out Oakridge Aeros
February 3, 2012

On Wednesday February 1 the Sarnia Jr. Sting faced off against the Oakridge Aeros at the Oakridge Arena and came away with a 5-0 win.

Cole Goossens started off the scoring on a backhander along the ice at the 5 minute mark of the first. Cole’s goal was assisted by Nathan Abbot and Evan Trigatti. Nathan Oliphant added another goal on a nice wrist shot with 1:40 left in the first from Tyler Talbot-Ellis and Aiden Clark.

At the 9 minute mark of the second Spencer Baillie batted the puck out of the air and into the Aero’s net with assists being given to Mathew Waun and Collin Zimmer.

At the nine minute mark of the third later Spencer got his second of the game as he flicked the puck under the cross bar from close in on a nice feed from Cole Goossens. Ryan Eyre was also awarded an assist on the play. Ryan Eyre finished off the scoring for the Jr. Sting as he hit the top shelf on a break-away from Cole Goossens and Beynon Jonas.

This was not a typical game for the home team as Oakridge was penalized for a total of 32 minutes (28 of those minutes in the third) while Sarnia spent only 4 in the Box.

Spencer Baillie was awarded the coach’s player of the game and the goal tending duo of Stevie Schaefer and Cam Stevens was awarded the parents puck.

Sarnia is on the road again on Saturday February 4 when they visit the Stratford Warriors at the Stratford Rotary Complex. Game time is 4:45.
