Sarnia Minor Atom MD hosted Stratford Warriors in playoff action

THE SARNIA JR. STING MINOR ATOM MD'S vs. THE STRATFORD WARRIORS

The Jr. Sting returned to play-off action Sunday afternoon hosting the Stratford Warriors @ Germain Arena. Sarnia, recently tied the London Bandits Orange in Saturday's action 1 - 1. The Sting supported a 0-1-2 record in three playdown games seeking their first win of the post season.

Stratford, although struggling in their past two games, arrived in Sarnia ready to play. Opening period produced exciting end to end action with high intensity and numerous scoring opportunities. Neither team could solve the goaltending as both keepers performed awesome playing with nerves of steel!! The first period ended in a tie at zeros.

The second started with the same high energy as the kids played hard seeking the opening goal. At the 4 minute mark, Sting winger Chandler Haagsma received the puck in his own end and went for the open ice rush finishing with a high powered wrist shot which eluded the Warriors goalie. Assists went to Mateo Troiani and Sting goalie Ian Stouth. The period would close out 1 - 0 for the Sting.

Sarnia would maintain pressure and begin to take the game into their own hands. They would add to their lead as Sting center Jacob Gould would find the back of the net on a beautiful shot. Assisting on the goal were Kurtis Allardyce and Chandler Haagsma. The Jr. Sting would complete the scoring late in the third when forward Danny Gratton fired one in from the faceoff . Noah Porter would get the assist.

A hard working effort produced two points handing the Sting their first win of Playdowns. They now sit in fourth position in the standings with a game in hand over leading West London. Next action for Sarnia is this Saturday Feb. 25th @ the Sarnia Arena vs. the leading West London team.
