Petrolia Squires suffer second loss on weekend

Tavistock, ON -  The Squires lost with a final score of 4 - 3 in game 2 of the best of seven series in WOAA Senior AA hockey.

The first period of play saw no scoring and in the second it power plays were the main factor as Tavistock scored 2 back to back goals to take a 2 - 0 lead. The first two goals were scored by Tyler Roth and Cody Hall.  Petrolia's came back late in the period to score their first goal on a power play with James Edgar scoring assisted by Chris McPhail. A minute and four seconds later Tavistock would make it 3 - 1 after Tyler Roth scored his second goal of the night and the period  ended with the Squires down by 2.

The Squires narrowed the gap early in the third as Aaron Brand scored assisted by James Edgar and Jeremiah Goodacre.  Just 45  seconds later Tavistock's Shawn Geerts scored to regained the 2 point lead.  Petrolia fought back and with 7:22 remaining on the clock James Edgar scored his second of the night to narrow the gap once again. Chris McPhail assisted on the goal.  Time ran out for the Squires and the game ended with the Squires taking their second loss of the series.

Squires netminder Chris Houle turned away a total 61 shots in the loss.  Tavistock's Doug Groenstege made a total of 40 saves in the win.  Petrolia went 1 for 3 in power play opportunities, Tavistock went 2 for 5.

Game three is back in Petrolia on Friday March 3 at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.  Game time 8:00 pm.
