The Alvinston
Indians played host
to two teams on
Sunday afternoon in
a double header. In
game #1, it was the
Shedden Mission, and
in game #2, it was
the Glanworth
Gators.
In game #1,
Alvinston opened the
scoring early,
scoring a run in the
first inning, and
adding another in
the second inning,
for a 2-0 lead. Andy
Triest and Chris
Drew both singled to
with one out to
start things up in
the first inning,
and Jeff Ingram
drove home A. Triest
for the game's first
run. In the second
inning, a walk by
Aaron Stocking, and
a sacrifice bunt by
Tom Jobson, put
Stocking on second,
and Joe Triest
singled him home.
Brad Young got the
nod for Alvinston,
and he was cruising
through the first
five innings, but in
the sixth he was
touched up for two
runs, and Shedden
knotted the game at
2's. A scoreless
seventh inning for
both pitchers, sent
the game to extra
innings, and the
international
tie-breaker rule.
Shedden went to work
scoring five runs on
four hits and two
walks, with the big
hit being a bases
clearing double by
Dan Hutchings.
With Shedden now in
the lead 7-2, the
Indians had to claw
back, but they
didn't have enough,
eventually losing
7-3 to Shedden in
game #1. Jason Dawdy
was the winning
pitcher, while Brad
Young suffered the
loss for Alvinston.
Andy Triest was 2/4
for Alvinston in a
losing effort.
In game #2,
Glanworth notched
the first run of the
game in the second
inning, off of
Indians starting
pitcher Jeff Lyons.
Lyons however was
sharp the rest of
the way, as the
young pitcher tossed
a 4 hitter for
Alvinston. Alvinston
replied with three
runs in the bottom
of the third, and
that was the game
essentially, as the
Indians went on to
win 3-1. Alix
Chisholm singled to
spark things up for
Alvinston, while Joe
Triest followed with
a walk. Andy Triest
advanced the runners
to second and third
on a well executed
sacrifice bunt, and
then a double by
Chris Drew scored
both runners. Ingram
then followed with a
walk, and Lyons
singled to load the
bases. Stocking then
singled to score
Drew, for the third
and final run.
Jeff Lyons was the
winning pitcher for
Alvinston, while
Chisholm, Lyons and
Drew were all 2/3 in
the contest.
Stocking and A.
Triest were both
1/2, and the Indians
captured a 3-1 win
in game #2.
The Indians will now
travel to Glanworth
on Wednesday night,
for an 8:00pm game,
and will be in
Alvinston on
Thursday evening,
for a double header
versus St. Thomas on
home turf.
