Alvinston Indians Come out on Top

July 13, 2012

The Alvinston Indians hosted the St. Thomas Storm in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball league action, Thursday in Alvinston, in front of a good crowd.

This game would be a tight one, as it always is with St. Thomas. Ryan Cummings for St. Thomas and Brad Young for Alvinston took the mound, in what was a good pitchers duo, between the two aces.

The Indians were the first to hit the scoresheet, when Andy Triest walked, advanced to second base on a pass ball, advanced to third on the second out of the inning, and then scored on a wild pitch, to make it 1-0. However, St. Thomas was quick to respond in the top of the fourth inning, when Kevin Lynch doubled with one out, Troy Rick was hit by a pitch with two out in the inning, and a key RBI single by Duane Gee, put St. Thomas in front scoring both Lynch and Rick. However, Alvinston had something to say about that in the bottom fo the fourth, when with one out, Stocking reached first base via an error, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single by A. Triest to tie the game. A. Triest then stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Joe Triest, to put the Indians in front 3-2.

Both pitchers went back to work in the subsequent innings, and neither team was able to score, as the final score ended up 3-2 for the Indians. Brad Young tossed a complete game five hitter, with two walks, one hit by pitch, two earned runs, and three strikeouts. Joe Triest was 2/4 for Alvinston with the game winning RBI, while Andy Triest was 1/2 with two runs scored, a walk, and the game tying RBI. Chris Drew was also 1/2 with a walk and an RBI, while Young, Jamie Shields, Jeff Lyons, and Alix Chisholm were all 1/3. Alvinston now has a record of 15 wins against 4 losses in league play in 2012, and are in a battle for first place.
