The St.
Christopher Cyclones Senior
Girls Soccer Team won the
SWOSSAA “AA” championship with a
3-0 victory over L’Essor from
Windsor.
L’Essor had
several good scoring chances in
the first 20 minutes before the
Cyclones settled down and
started to control the play. The
first half ended 0-0. Against
the wind in the second half the Cylcones played a more
controlled passing game and
Maria Mitchell open the scoring
with a drive from 25 yards out.
10 minutes later a pretty
passing play from Michelle Savo
and Jenelle Labadie set up Maria
Vani for a drive that found the
back of the net. Mitchell closed
out the scoring for the Cyclones
soon afterwards. The Cyclones
defense played strong in the
second half allowing the
L’Aigles few opportunities to
score. Cary Pretty was in net
for the shutout.
The Cyclones
now head to OFSAA in St. Thomas
as the second seed. This is the
second consecutive SWOSSAA
championship for the Cyclones
and their seventh in the last
eight years.
