Sarnia Spirit U14 WOYSL
Soccer Team hosted the
Ontario Cup Tournament round
this last weekend. In game
one the Spirit played Brams
United, ranked as one of the
best teams in Ontario. Brams
scored early to take a 1-0
lead and Cassy Forte headed
home a goal for the Spirit
just before half time.
"It was a good game they are
a L1 team, one of the top 10
teams in Ontario so we were
close" said head coach Kevin
Simmonds "we are still a
young team and understanding
on how to defend and once we
get that and play with a bit
of a presence it's going to
be a really good team"
In the second half, Brams
scored two quick goals.
Kelly Hodgins scored on a
direct free kick for Sarnia
to close the gap to 3-2.
Sarnia pressed for the final
fifteen minutes and were
unlucky not to tie the game.
In game two, Sarnia defeated
Windsor Polonia 1-0 on a
goal by Lauren Shaw. Cassy
Edlington with the shutout.
In game three, Sarnia went
down 3-0 to Oakville and
roared back to score goals
by Kristy Hodgins and
Cameron George. A late
penalty given to Oakville
sealed the game and Oakville
scored a deserved 4-2 win.
The Spirit now travel to
Toronto this weekend to play
in the International Robbie
Soccer Tournament. Calgary,
Montreal, Buffalo-New York,
Pickering, Scarborough, East
York, and North York Cosmos
are in their group.
