Sarnia Sting Announces Import Draft Picks
June 28, 2012

Sarnia, On –  Sarnia Sting General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced on Wednesday their two 2012 CHL Import Draft Picks.

In the first round selection (36th overall) the Hockey Club has selected forward Nikolai Goldobin with its first round selection (36th overall) in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.

Goldobin a native of Russia played last season with Russkie Vityazi Chekhov of the MHL (Russian Jr. League).

In 50 games last season Goldobin scored 13 goals and recorded 22 points.

Eligible for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft he was recently selected 8th overall in the 2012 KHL Draft by Metallurg Novokuznetsk.

Beaulieu is confident that Goldobin will report to Sarnia.

“All indications we have are that Nikolai is excited to come to North America and wants to play in the CHL.  Nikolai is represented by Igor Larionov so he is very educated on both the CHL and the Sarnia Sting.  Nikolai is a highly skilled forward who we’re thrilled to pick.  He will quickly adapt to our game and will be a great fit with our hockey club.”

In the second round the Hockey Club  selected defenceman David Nemecek with its second round selection in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.

Nemecek a native of the Czech Republic played last season HC Plzen U18 and was also a member of the Czech Republic U17 team that competed in Windsor at the U17 World Hockey Challenge.

Beaulieu is pleased with how everything unfolded today with the Import Draft.

“We believe we added two valuable pieces to our hockey club today.  I had the chance to watch David play at the Under 17 championships and really liked his game.  He does everything well and with his age and size he is only going to continue to get better.  Add to that a dynamic player such as Nikolai Goldobin whom we could both have for at least two seasons and it was a very good day for us.”
