The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major
Atom MD fell to the London
Nationals by a score of 5-4
on Monday March 19 at the
Carling Arena in London.
Down 4 goals with three
minutes left in the second
period the Jr. Sting mounted
a comeback that started with
an Aiden Clark goal from the
point. Cole Goossens added
another goal on a Mat Waun
rebound before the period
was over.
Collin Zimmer scored a
beautiful goal as he fought
off a defender and deked the
London net minder stick
side. Mat Waun was awarded
an assist on Collin’s goal.
Mat Waun would tie the game
with 6 minutes left in the
final period as he flipped a
loose puck up over the
fallen London goalie. Collin
Zimmer assisted on Mat’s
goal.
The Nationals would score
the eventual game winner
with 1:46 left on the clock.
The Jr. Sting would pull
goalie Cam Stevens to the
bench for the extra attacker
but would not be able to get
the tying goal. Damon
Skinn-Wai was the coach’s
player of the game and Mat
Waun was the parents pick.
The Jr. Sting boast a record
of 9 wins and 1 loss in the
round robin playoffs with
the North London Nationals
having the same record.
Alliance Hockey rules read
that the first tie-breaker
is the regular season
record; therefore the
Nationals are seeded 1st and
Sarnia 2nd.
The Jr. Sting will now face
the London Bandits in a race
to four points while London
will take on the Stratford
Warriors. The winners of the
Semi final series will face
each other for the Alliance
West MD Championships. Game
times to be announced.
