The Alvinston Indians traveled to Glanworth on Sunday, May 6, to play the Glanworth Gators, in St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League play.
Alvinston scored a couple of runs early, and then added to their lead much later in the game. In the second, they scored their first run when Jeff Lyons singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Stocking. In the third, Alvinston added another run, when Eric Hyatt reached base via an error, was sacrificed to second by Tom Jobson, and then scored on an RBI double by Chris Drew.
With a 2-0 lead, Brad Young did his work on the mound for the Indians, as he pitched 5 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits with 2 strikeouts, before turning things over to reliever Jeff Lyons in the sixth and seventh innings. Lyons went two innings, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, 3 hits, and 1 walk.
In the sixth inning for Alvinston, Young led off with a single, Jeff Ingram walked, and Lyons singled to load the bases, for Stocking who doubled for Alvinston to score all three runners. Eric Hyatt then followed and clubbed a two-run homerun, as the Indians scored 5 runs in the sixth inning, for a 7-0 lead at the time. Glanworth then scored three runs to make the score 7-3, before Alvinston added one more run, when Drew singled, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Jeff Lyons.
The final score was Alvinston 8, Glanworth 3. Brad Young was the winning pitcher for Alvinston. Jobson was 2/3 for the Indians, while Lyons was 3/3 for the Indians with a walk. Lyons had two runs scored, and two stolen bases as well. Drew was 2/3 with a walk, a stolen base, a double, a run scored, and 1 RBI.
