INDIANS DEFEAT
GLANWORTH AT HOME
In the St. Thomas
District Men's
Fastball league the
Alvinston Indians
welcomed the
Glanworth Gators to
town on Thursday
night for their
second meeting of
the season.
Alvinston was able
to defeat Glanworth,
in their first and
only road game to
date, by the final
score of 8-3. On
this evening, it
would prove to be
much of the same, as
Alvinston's offence
was too much.
The Indians sent
young right hander
Jeff Lyons to the
mound, and the
Gators were able to
get to him early,
scoring a run in the
first inning, after
a lead off walk came
around to score. But
Alvinston answered
big time in the
bottom of the first,
scoring five runs.
The big hit was a
three run homerun by
Aaron Stocking,
while Doug Charlton
and Brady Davenport
drove in the two
other runs in the
opening inning. Joe
Triest, Chris Drew,
Charlton, Stocking,
and Lyons all scored
runs.
The bats then went
dead for several
innings for
Alvinston, but that
was not the case in
several innings for
Glanworth, but they
just couldn't cash
their runners in. In
the bottom of the
sixth inning,
Alvinston went to
work in a big way.
Andy Triest and Joe
Triest led off the
inning with singles,
and then A. Triest
scored on an RBI
single by Jamie
Shields up the
middle. Drew then
reached base on an
error to load the
bases, and Charlton
followed by clubbing
a double into the
left field corner,
that scored J.
Triest, Shields, and
Drew, for a 9-1
mercy win for the
Indians.
Jeff Lyons was the
winning pitcher for
the Indians tossing
6 innings of 1 run
ball. Lyons allowed
5 walks, but only
one hit, and struck
out 5 Glanworth
swingers.
On Friday night the
Indians suffered
their first lost
against the Morphet
Magic taking a 11 -
5 loss.
Alvinston is now 3-1
for the season,
