St. Christopher Cyclones Junior Boys take title by a single point

May 26, 2012

The St. Christopher Cyclones took the title by a single point in the 14 - 13 win over the Northern Vikings. This was a big win for the Cyclones as Northern had previously defeated them twice with scores of 13 - 0 and 25 - 0.

After the first half both sides were scoreless despite Northern having the advantage as St. Christopher received two yellow cards and played short.  Early in the second Northern scored 3 points on a penalty kick.

St. Christopher came back scoring the first try and kicking the conversion  for a 7 - 3 lead.

Northern scored a try but missed the conversion to take an 8 - 7 lead.  St. Christopher's regained the lead with a try and conversion kick to up the score to 14 - 8.  In the final minutes Northern scored a try and narrowed the gap to 14 - 13 after missing the conversion and in a final attempt the Vikings attempted a 50 yard kick that was just missed and the final whistle blew shortly after giving the Cyclones the win and title.

"It was a tough game, it was back and forth the whole game but we ended up pulling it out and was able to hold Northern off", said Head Coach Graeme Weaver "it was the best season the Junior Cyclones ever had."

Ryan Lyle and Hayden MacLean scored the tries and Josh Elsley made both kicks for the Cyclones.
