Point Edward Peewee's Suffer First Loss of Season
November 25, 2012

The Point Edward Blackhawk PeeWee’s hosted the Mt Brydges Cougars(Blue) in Lambton-Middlesex league action and suffered a 5-3 loss for their first of the season where penalties determined the game.

The Point got an early bounce a couple of minutes into the period when King took ashot that the Cougars goalie couldn’t handle and Burrowes was positioned just right to get the rebound and make it 1-0. Play was bake and forth until the midway point of the period when Mt Brydges got the tying goal but the Point quickly retaliated Lamore set up Burrowes for his second of the game to regain the lead. Things started to go downhill from there for the Hawks when they hit the penalty box for head contact and the Cougars made them pay when the Point Edward penalty killing unit couldn’t clear the zone and the Cougars tied it before the period ended.

The second period saw the both teams get a lot of penalties early but the Cougars were able to stay out of the box during the second half and they took full advantage of the extra man. With the Hawks pretty well a man down for the entire second period, it prevented them from making any offensive surge. Mid-way through, the Cougars banged in two goals on the power play in a 30 second span to take a commanding two goal lead but the Point continued to fight. As the period ticked down, the Hawks got a break during a penalty kill when Kennedy drove into the Mt Brydges zone and scored with a shot that hit the post and went off the Cougars goalie to end it at 4-3 going into final period.

The third period saw the Point continue the game in the penalty box which hampered any chances of tying the game even though they continued to fight hard and any chances they did have were stopped by a hot Cougars net minder. The Cougars put a final nail in the coffin midway through the period and the game was called due to curfew to hand the Hawks their first loss of the season.
