Northern Vikings
2012 LSSAA SR Footbal ChampionsThe Northern Vikings remained undefeated taking the LSSAA title with a 24 - 1 win over the St. Christopher Cyclones Saturday at St. Christopher's field.
"Defensively we were pretty stout" said Head Coach Craig Davies "We played defensively and we didn't let them in to our red zone, we did a good job to put our offence in situations where we could capitalize"
"I don't think we played the best we could offensively but we certainly have to hand it to Mitchell Smiley he can do a lot of things so we are very fortunate." Smiley was named the Game MVP after rushing 100 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
St. Christopher couldn't solve the Vikings yet again. The Cyclones went 3 - 1 in the regular season with their only loss was against the Vikings.
"I was really proud of our effort." said Cyclones Head Coach Dave Elsley "The better team won today for sure but I thought our kids played tough to the final buzzer and I was happy with the way we played today." We struggled a little bit with the ball but I thought our defense was solid. Hats off to Northern they were the better team."
Both teams will compete in SWOSSAA semi-finals next Saturday November 10. Northern will travel to Chatham to take on the Ursuline College Lancers in the AAA/AAAA division. The Cyclones will host Wallaceburg in A/AA semi-finals. Game time 1:00 pm at St. Christopher Secondary School.
The winners from these two games will play for the SWOSSAA finals against the winners of Windsor/Essex.
At the end of the Senior Game the Annual awards were presented.
