The Lambton Jr Sting Major Atoms traveled to Chicago on the weekend to participate in the Bauer International hockey tournament.
In the first game the Major Atoms opened tournament with a 6-0 win over the St. Jude Knights. The boys came out strong and opened the scoring early in the period with a goal by Wil O'Leary-Dilosa, assisted by Christopher Scott. Blake Butler,assisted by Wil O'Leary-Dilosa and Kaleb Edlington, found the back of the net to finish the first period and advance the score to 2-0.
In the second period of play the Sting added 2 more goals to go up 4-0. Kaleb Edlington scored his first goal of the season unassisted and Wil O'Leary-Dilosa added a short-handed goal.
The Sting notched two more goals in the third period of play. Kaleb Edlington added his second goal of the game on a pass from Blake Butler and Jackson Cole scored his first AAA goal, assisted by Blake Butler.
Adam Mino recorded the shut out for the Sting, holding the Knights off the score board with a big glove save late in the game.
In their second game the Major Atoms faced off against Bay County Blizzard. Coming off their win in the morning, the team came out sluggish and allowed the Blizzard to go up 2 goals in the opening minutes of the game. The Sting finally put one in the net with 40 seconds left in the first period. Goal scored by Wil O'Leary-Dilosa, assisted by Blake Butler.
The Jr Sting tied the game up early in the second period on a goal by Wil O'Leary-Dilosa, assisted by Bailey Moffat. Sting scored the go ahead goal in the second but had the goal waved off.
In the third, Blake Butler scored an unassisted goal off the face off to bring the Sting ahead. Ethan Langford held the net to secure the 3-2 win.
The Major Atom extended their winning streak to three as the Jr Sting faced off against the Atlanta Fire. The Fire came out shooting with two quick shots on net which Adam Mino tended easily. Wil O'Leary-Dilosa opened the scoring for the Sting 3 minutes into the first period with the assist to Blake Butler. Carter Barron, assisted by Tristen Konrad added another late in the first to go ahead 2-0.
In the second period Tristen Konrad and Jackson Cole added two more goals with the assists going to Bailey Moffatt and Kaleb Edlington. Jackson Cole added his second goal of the game in the third period on the pass from Tyler Steeves to finish up the game with a 5-0 final.
The Major Atoms finished round robin play with a perfect 4-0 record and advance to the quarterfinals.
Ethan Langford took the call to the net against the Winnetka, IL Warriors who came into the game with a 2-0-1 record.
The Warriors opened the scoring just 30 seconds after the puck drop at center ice and proceeded to add two more goals in the first period of play before Wil O'Leary-Dilosa, assisted by Kaleb Edlington, notched the first Sting goal of the game.
In the second period of play, the Warriors added another goal to go ahead 4-1. The Sting dug deep and Wil O'Leary Dilosa, assisted by Ethan Kerby, found the net for the second time in the game to bring the Sting within 2.
Third period saw the Sting scoring explode with 3 unanswered goals. Goals were added by Kaleb Edlington x2 and Carter Barron with assists going to Blake Butler, Kyle Flamminio and Wil O'Leary-Dilosa.
With the 5-4 win, the Atoms secure top finish in their division of round robin play and earned a spot in the quarter finals where they faced off against the Chicago Hawks and lost 4 - 1. Bailey Moffatt scored the goal for the Jr. Sting.
