Rookie Woes Continue for Lambton AAA Minor Atom

November 19, 2012

The Lambton Jr. Sting Minor Atom AAA team were on the road this past weekend taking on the Hamilton Huskies and the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs. Playing shorthanded, the team suffered two more unfortunate losses.

On Saturday, the team traveled to Hamilton to take on the Huskies and were eager to get 2 points. Right from the drop of the puck, the Huskies were flying. The Jr. Sting found themselves down 2 goals just 2:54 into the first period of play. Lambton would find their legs later in the period and would get on the board when Owen “Peety” Peters rushed down the far side of the ice and somehow squeaked a shot, five-hole, between the Hamilton goaltender’s legs. Jake MacLean would tie the game up early in the second when he finished of a nice passing play with his linemates, Ryder  Nienhuis and Andrew Lemieux. However, the Huskies weren’t going to go down easily and roared back for 6 unanswered goals before the final buzzer.

On Sunday, the Jr. Sting traveled to Komoka to take on their division rivals, the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs. This young team battled hard through 2 periods of play and were only down 3-2 heading in to the third period of play. Scoring for the Jr. Sting were Peters with his 2nd of the weekend from Lemieux and Nienhuis and Derek Esselment from Carson Peer. However, the flood gates would open up in the third and the Chief would rack up 5 more goals before Lucas deLorenzo would close out the score with just 0:34 seconds left in the game. Assists on deLorenzo’s goal were awarded to Nicholas Medeiros and Lemieux.

The Jr. Sting look for some redemption this coming weekend when they take on the Brantford 99ers at home on Saturday and their arch nemesis, the London Jr. Knights, on the road, Sunday.
