Alvinston Flyers Win in OT over Wheatley
Alvinston, On - The Wheatley Sharks fell to Alvinston 3 - 2 in overtime on Friday night in Great Lakes Jr C Hockey League action.
Alvinston scored the lone goal in the first period on a goal by Dylan Lightfoot from Joe Archer and Connor McKinnon. Second period Wheatley's Brendon Anger tied things up but the Flyers came back to regain the lead just :15 seconds later with Joe Archer scoring from Josh Moore and Dylan Lightfoot.
In the third Jon Woelk tied the game for Wheatley at 6:58 and the two sides went back and forth without neither side scoring the game winner in regulation time. In overtime at 3:23 Jake McPhail scored the winning goal for Alvinston assisted by Ryan Fraser and Joe Archer.
Both sides went scoreless in power play opportunities, Alvinston had four chances, Wheatley had five.
Jamie Morreau earned the win with 27 saves. Marc Tremblay took the loss turning away 25 shots.
Alvinston holds 4th spot in the standings race with a record of 12 - 8 - 1 - 2.
The Flyers have the rest of the weekend off. They are back in action on Friday November 30 when they host the Wallaceburg Lakers. Game time 7:30 pm.
