OHL Announces 2012 Subway Super Series Rosters

October 24, 2012

The Ontario Hockey League announce the 2012 Subway Super Series 34 player rosters on Tuesday that included Alex Basso of the Sarnia Sting.

Team OHL will face the Russian National Junior Team in Game 3 of the series in Guelph on Thursday November 8 with Sarnia hosting Game 4 on Monday November 12. The series also includes two games in the QMJHL prior to both OHL games, with the series wrapping up with two games hosted by the WHL.

"It's pretty exciting, I can't wait for the game. said Basso  "I haven't played anything International so it was good news when I found out."

Basso had an excellent year last season but  has been sidelined this season with injuries and suspension.  he's says he's ready to get back on track.

“I watched the series last year with Nathan Chiarlitti and Brett Ritchie in it, and I always watch the World Juniors every year,” Basso said, “I personally like it more than NHL hockey because of all the excitement and all the young talent and everybody’s giving it their all so it’s a really fun thing to watch.”

Basso who is undrafted  was invited to Montreal’s camp this fall before it was cancelled due to the NHL lockout.

"He hasn't played much hockey this year but he deserves to be there, he's a highly skilled defenceman, he proved that last year and he's got a chance to prove himself in this game." said Sting Head Coach Jacques Beaulieu who will on the OHL bench as assistant coach to Steve Spott.

This is Beaulieu  third time being selected Assistant Coach for the OHL team, once in St. Johns then London and now Sarnia.  "It's good for us coaches" said Beaulieu "It's a bit of a perk for us and we get to learn from good coaches like Steve Spott and Walker from Guelph.  It's a learning opportunity for us and it's a good feeling to coach the premier kids in our league."

Beaulieu added "For Lambton County it's going to be the best hockey to be seen this year.  You'll have all the premier kids of high draft picks of the National Hockey League coming to Sarnia."

Nail Yakopov who presently is playing playing pro in Russia will return to Sarnia as Captain of the Russian team.   The full Russian Roster is expected out later today.

Also in the line up is former Lambton Jr Sting AAA and Elgin Middlesex alumni Ryan Rupert from Grand Bend along with Seth Griffith from Wallaceburg.

Team OHL enters the tenth anniversary of this event with a perfect 18 - 0 record against Team Russia.
