Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks Win Streak Continues

October 27, 2012

The Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks hosted the Strathroy Rockets White team and led by Noah Murray’s three goals, came away with a 6-4 win in Lambton-Middlesex league action.

In front of their home town crowd, the Hawks began the period physical to set the tempo for the night. Neither team was getting close to the net until near the end of the period when Boccanfuso drove into the Rockets zone and set up Murray who slammed it in to make it 1-0. As the final seconds ticked down, Courtemanche shot a bouncer from mid-ice to beat the goalie but it didn’t make it in before the buzzer sounded and the Hawks went into the second with only a 1 goal lead.

The second period saw both teams settle in early until the midway point of the period when the Hawks drove into the zone and Taylor came out of the corner and drove to the net to beat the goalie to make it 2-0. 45 seconds later Murray cleared the zone to Canie who passed back to Murray who went on a breakaway and made it count to extend the Point lead to 3-0 going into the third.

Taylor got his second of the night to make it 4-0 early in the third when he was in front of the net and with the puck landing on his stick, he made it count with assists going to Saint and Murray. Strathroy finally beat the strong Point defense on a power play to get on the board. Action was pretty tight until mid-way through the period when Waddell took a wrist shot from the top of the face-off circle off a Strathroy defender to beat the Rockets goalie. Murray got his hat-trick shortly thereafter when he drove the puck from the corner  and put it in the top shelf to give the Hawks a commanding lead but the Rockets were not done. With five minutes remaining Strathroy got 3 unanswered goals with the last being a power play but the Hawks were able to hang on as time ran out for Strathroy and came away with a 6-4 win.

Once again Fortey and Gibbs shared the duties in net and kept their winning streak alive.
