Sarnia, On - The
Sting hosted the
Owen Sound Attack
for game two of the
home/home series
Friday night at the
RBC Centre.
After taking a close
2 - 1 loss in Owen
Sound the Sting lost
another close game
by a score of 4 - 3.
In the pregame
ceremonies the Sting
presented ex-captain
Nathan Chiarlitti
with his team
sweater and a
standing ovation
from Sting Fans.
Chiarlitti was a fan
favourite who played
four season with the
Sting before being
traded to Owen Sound
earlier this season.
Owen Sound took the
lead in the first
period just two and
a half minutes into
the game when Joseph
Blandisi was left
alone in front of
the net and
backhanded it in for
the goal. That
was the only goal
scored in the
period.
In the second period
it was a roller
coaster ride as a
total of five goals
were scored
beginning at 7:36
when Alex Galchenyuk
scored the equalizer
on a rebound off
Bryan Moore who was
playing in his first
OHL game.
Craig Hottot also
earned an assist on
the goal.
Owen Sound answered
back just over two
minutes later at
9:48 to regain the
lead after Holden
Cook scored after
the puck was picked
up at the blue
line by Gemel Smith
who earned the
assist.
Sarnia's Charlie
Sarault scored the
only power play goal
in the game at 15:33
with Alex Galchenyuk
and Reid Boucher
assisting.
Just :22 seconds
later Joseph
Blandisi earned his
second of the night
after the Sting
couldn't clear the
puck in front and
Blandisi took a low
show into the net.
Another equalizer
goal for the Sting
was scored by Nick
Latta at 16:29 after
receiving the puck
from Anthony
DeAngelo. The
period ended with
both sides even at 3
- 3.
“The kids worked
hard,” said Sting
head coach Jacques
Beaulieu. “We missed
an assignment on the
opening face-off to
start the third
period and it cost
us the game."
In the third period
it took just :11
seconds for Owen
Sound to regain the
lead when Cameron
Brace took a pass
from Daniel
Catenacci and found
the mark scoring the
eventual game
winner. In the
final minute the
Attack already a man
short due to a
penalty found
themselves two men
down after Sarnia
pulled their goalie,
however Owen Sound
held the attack off
to take the win.
Netminder Jordan
Binnington earned
the win for Owen
Sound turning away
30 shots. JP
Anderson took the
loss for the Sting.
Owen Sound went 0
for 2 in power play
opportunities,
Sarnia went 1 for 6.
After scoring two
goals in the game
Joseph Blandisi
earned the first
star of the night,
Alex Galchenyuk with
a goal and an assist
took second star and
Owen Sound's Cameron
Brace earned third
star.
"The kids are
battling and are in
every game." said
Beaulie "It’s tough
to take at at loss
at home, we
have to go back
tomorrow in the
Sault and play a
good game and try to
get some points."
The Sting travels
Saturday for an
evening game in
Sault Ste Marie then
on Monday they
travel to Windsor
for an afternoon
game.
The Sting are back
at home on Saturday
Oct 13 when they
host Niagara at 7:05
at the RBC Centre.
