The Jr Sting Bantams competed in two games over the weekend, one at home and one on the road, and brought their consecutive tie streak to four games after settling for ties with Waterloo Gold and London Green.
Saturday afternoon the Jr Sting Bantams hosted the Waterloo Wolves Gold at the Clearwater arena and battled to a 2-2 draw the with talented and fiesty visitors. The wolves would register both their goals in the second period while the home squad had one in the second and another in the third of what was a physical and spirited affair. Scoring for Sarnia were Kyle Vince from Jack Dunn and Justin Riley-Meyer and Morgan Halcovitch on an 'offspeed' point shot from Vince and Zach Vanderwal. Jake Wilkins between the pipes was busy making a number of highlight reel saves to preserve the point.
Sunday the local squad headed down the highway to London to take on the Jr Knights Green at the Western Fairgrounds and found themselves in a special teams showdown on route to a 1-1 tie. There were no headchecks left uncalled as the teams racked up a total of 66 minutes in minor penalties during the 45 minute contest. Despite outshooting their London opponents the Jr Sting had trouble finishing until late in the third period when Jacob Caughlin would bury a chance to tie the game. Assisting on the goal was Riley-Meyer. Brody Dummitt was on his game as well, making a number of great saves including stopping three breakaways in the contest.
The team will get in some practice time this week before competing in their first tournament of the year in St Thomas on the coming weekend.
