The Northern Jr. Vikings football team earned another victory this week, this time against a St. Christopher's team that fought hard to the final whistle.
Despite several big plays, neither team capitalized in the first quarter. The scoring began in the 2nd when Kobe Lundy kept the ball on a faked field goal attempt and ran into the endzone from 15 yards out. The extra point was blocked. St. Chris responded late in the quarter with a twenty yard touchdown run of their own. They added the extra point to make the halftime score,
Vikings 6, Cyclones 7.
The Jr. Vikings turned the momentum around in the 3rd quarter, when Jordan Walsh recovered a Cyclones' fumble and ran the ball for a major from 40 yards out. The Vikings attempt to convert was incomplete. Lundy scored again from close range with five minutes left in the 3rd. The Vikings missed another opportunity to convert. Early in the 4th quarter, the Vikings' Blake Maxfield picked off a Cylcone pass and took the ball 70 yards the other way for a TD. Maxfield's extra point attempt was denied. The Vikings added two more touchdowns in the 4th, on runs by Lundy and Niles Crews. Maxfield converted both for extra points. The Cyclones added two more of their own majors in the final quarter, leaving the final score Vikings 38, Cyclones 19.
