Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks Start Season on Winning Note

October 20, 2012

The Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks began their 2012 Lambton-Middlesex League season hosting the Strathroy Rockets Red team and came away with a hard fought 4-2 win.

Both teams wanted to start the season off on a good note. When the Rockets took a tripping penalty five minutes into the first, Terpstra started the 2012 season scoring for the Blackhawks 1˝ minutes into the power play to make it 1-0. The Rockets retaliated shortly thereafter to tie the game at 1-1 and then the Hawks saw themselves in penalty trouble for the last five minutes of the period with the score staying at 1-1.

The second started with a scoring frenzy. Early in the second, Murray gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead with assists going to Terpsatra and Saint but the Point immediately got themselves into penalty trouble and the Rockets took advantage of the extra man to tie it at 2-2 within a minute of the Point taking the lead. 15 seconds after Strathroy tied it, Murray scored his second of the game to give the Hawks their third lead of the game and that is where it stood for the rest of the period.

The third period was end to end action with both teams defense controlling their zones and neither team able to score. With the time coming to an end, the Rockets pulled their goalie and Marr was able to put the game away with an open netter with 20 seconds remaining.

Fortey and Gibbs shared the duties in net.
