On
December 11th, the Point Edwards Peewee Blackhawks
travelled to Strathroy to play the Rockets and
pulled out a 2-1 win in Lambton-Middlesex league
action.
The
first period saw both teams look evenly matched with
play going end-to-end. As the period progressed, the
Hawks were getting some good scoring opportunities
but the Rockets defense kept them at bay and not
allowing the Hawks to get any rebounds. The period
end 0-0.
The
second saw the Point almost get on the board with a
shot hitting the post in the first minute of play.
With the momentum going with the Point, Best made an
end-to-end drive and deked the goalie with a
backhand to give the Point a 1-0 lead. Action was
fast for most of the period with both teams getting
scoring opportunities but the period end 1-0 for the
Hawks.
The
third period saw the Hawks take a two goal lead when
Riddell drove the puck into the zone and passed it
to Best who shot with Riddell getting the rebound to
make it 2-0. The Rockets capitalized when the Hawks
couldn’t clear their zone and made it 2-1 with 10
minutes to play in the game. Action continued to be
fast and Reinders came up big with four minutes
remaining to keep the Hawks one goal lead. As the
game came to a close and a Hawks player was in the
penalty box, the Rockets tried to score with a
6-on-4
attack but the Hawks held on and saved the 2-1
victory.
