Cougars Hand Pt Edward Peewees 2nd Loss of the season
January 3, 2012

On December 6th, in one of a few mid-week games for the Point Edward PeeWee Blackhawks, the Point were handed their second loss of the season when they travelled to Mt Brydges and played the Cougars Gold team.

The first period started with both teams moving the puck but the defense kept them from getting deep into each others end. As the period progressed the game got a bit more physical and both teams were able to get a bit closer to the net to get a few scoring chances. By the end of the period, neither team was going to get a goal unless it came from a mistake.

The second saw the Hawks get a slashing call to put them in the “sin-bin” but their penalty kill was excellent and the Cougars didn’t get any quality chances. The Point began putting on pressure with Best hitting the crossbar twice. Mid-way through the period, the Cougars got a penalty and the Hawks took full advantage of the extra man. They controlled the puck well in the Cougars end and Hunking finally got the Hawks on the board to take a 1-0 lead. This seemed to give the Point a boost and they controlled play for most of the remainder of the period. As the second came to a close, the Cougars took advantage of a scramble in front of the Hawks net to tie the game at 1-1 going into the third.

The third saw the Point putting a lot of pressure of the Cougars but the Cougars goalie came up big to keep the game tied. Best finally got the goalie off balance with a slap shot which the goalie couldn’t control and Canie slammed in the rebound to take a 2-1 lead. Shortly thereafter, Mt Brydges caught the Point defense pinching in and they got a break away to tie it 2-2 with half a period to go. As the game came to close, the Cougars pressured the Hawks in their end and the Point couldn’t clear the zone and the Cougars made it 3-2. With two minutes remaining, the Hawks couldn’t get the tying goal and took a 3-2 loss.
