The
Point Edward
Bantam
Blackhawks
hosted the
Lambton Shores
Predators in
recent
Lambton-Middlesex
league action
and came out
with a hard
fought 3-3 tie.
Both teams came
out aggressive
with the Hawks
hitting the
sin-bin early in
the period.
Early action was
fast paced with
both goalies
getting shots
and as the
period grew
older the action
became more
physical. Midway
through the
period, the
Hawks got caught
deep in their
end and could
not clear the
puck from the
zone and the
Predators put in
a slap shot to
make it 1-0. The
Point started
pressing hard
late in the
period and the
Predators
defense was
working hard to
keep them clear
of their net.
The second
period started
with Smith
hitting the post
of the Predators
net and that set
the tone for the
period’s early
action. Five
minutes into the
period, Smith
made a pass from
the corner of
the Predators
zone to an open
Brett McGugan
who took a wrist
shot from
between the
face-off circles
to tie it at
1-1. Immediately
from the next
face-off the
Point drove to
the Predators
end and Taylor
made a nice pass
to Smith from
behind the net
who jammed the
puck in to give
the Hawks a 2-1
lead. Action was
physical, hard
hitting and
end-to-end for
the remainder of
the period. Late
in the period,
the Predators
caught the Hawks
in a weak moment
and drove
through the
defense to tie
it 2-2 going
into the third.
The third saw
both teams look
tired from the
physical and
fast paced play.
The Predators
were able to
break the 2-2
tie when they
took a play from
the Hawks
playbook and
made a pass from
behind the net
to an open
player who
slammed the puck
in. As the game
was coming to a
close, the Point
continued to
pressure the
Predators with
majority of play
being in the
Lambton Shores
end and the
pressure paid
off with Smith
scoring to tie
it at 3-3 before
the game ended.
