The Alvinston Indians traveled to Harrietsville on Wednesday evening, for game 2 of their best 3 out of 5 semi-final St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League playoff matchup versus Springfield. Game 1 was Springfield's, until the last inning, when the Indians scored three runs to comeback and win 6-5. They carried that momentum into game 2, with Indians starter Kyle Crawford leading the team, as he tossed a no hitter in this contest, with 13 strikeouts and 3 base on balls.
The Indians got going in the opening stanza when Joe Triest reached via an error, and he advanced to second via a sacrifice by Jamie Shields. The next batter was Jeff Lyons and he doubled, putting runners at second and third. Brad Young grounded out to score Joe Triest for the game's opening run. Jeff Ingram then followed with a triple that scored Lyons for a 2-0 lead. Both teams made little noise in the second, third and fourth innings, but in the fifth, the Indians plated a third run. Aaron Stocking tripled to lead off the inning, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Andy Triest. The Indians threatened to score again in the seventh, after two runners reached base, but could not add to their lead, but they secured a 3-0 win.
Crawford was the story on the mound and the winning pitcher, while Todd Winkworth suffered the loss. Ingram and Lyons were 2/3 for Alvinston, while Andy Triest was 1/2. Game 3 goes Thursday night in Alvinston at 8:00pm.
