ESSO Takes SMISL Semi-Final in Penalty Kicks

Esso vs. ANJ Industrial Playoff Semi-Final

 

The game was fast and furious as both teams wanting the first goal. In the 35th minute ANJ would strike first as the ball went off the post and in. The score would remain 1-0 for ANJ at the half.

In the Second half Esso was pressing for the equalizer, with Zach Vanreenen coming close but the ball hit off the post and stayed out. Zach Vanreenen would tie the game up in the 70th minute with the ball barely crossing the goal line. In the 75 minutes an ANJ player was sent off as he picked up his second yellow card, and was down to 10 men. Near the end of the game Esso needed to switch goal keepers as Dan Walton came off hobbling. Justin Whitefoot came in as the new Esso keeper with four minutes left in the game. The final whistle blew with the score tied at 1-1.

This meant the dreaded penalty kicks; Esso has not won in penalty kicks for over 8 years. However backup goal keeper Justin Whitefoot Came up strong making 2 stops in penalty kicks. Esso prevailed 4-2 in penalty kicks end Esso 8 year drought in penalty kicks and sending them into the finals.

Paton will now face Esso in the finals, with Paton winning 3-0 over City Centre Car Wash. Esso will need to come up big with Esso never beating Paton Controls ever. Game is on Tuesday September 11 @ 8:30 pm at Norm Perry Park Main Field.
