Jake Marks and Team Canada are 2 - 0 in Seoul South Korea U18 World Baseball Championships

Jake Marks of the Sarnia is in Seoul, South Korea at the IBAD 18U World Baseball Championships playing for Team Canada.

On Saturday Canada defeated Italy in a come-from-behind 4 - 3 win.

Canada was trailing 3 - 2 in the bottom of the ninth.  Mitchell Triolo (Scarborough, ON) led off with a double.  Jacob Robson (Windsor, ON) hit a single which put runners on the corners.  Kyle Hann (Oakville, ON) struck out then Nathan DeSouza (Milton,ON) popped-out.  With the pressure now on with two outs, Owen Spiwak (Mississauga, ON) came up to bat and hit a hard grounder which score Triolo to tie the game. With the winning run on third base, Brett Siddall (Windsor, ON) hit it out to left field bringing in the winning run.

Jake Marks pitched for five innings and faced one batter in the 6th.  He had 4 strikeouts, allowed 3 runs, on 5 hits, 2 errors and walked 3.

On day 1 their first game was rained out against Panama.  That game will now be played on September 4th.  

In the second scheduled game Canada faced Japan and took another come from behind 6 - 5 victory. Canada was trailing 5 - 3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.  With a batter on second base Jesse Hodges (Victoria, BC) hit a homer which tied things up and the game went into extra innings. Extra innings rule was instituted where a team begins the inning with runners on first and second base.  Canada managed to get three outs in the top of the 10th.  At bat in the bottom of the 10th Canadian batter hit a sacrificial bunt that moved the runners to second and third.  With two out and two men on base the Japanese pitcher threw a wild pitch that Canada scored for the win.  box score

Canada is now 2 - 0 and are back in action again on Sunday (Sept 2) when they face the defending champion Chinese Taipei at 6pm local time (5am ET).
