Sarnia, RBC Centre - Sarnia Sting Minor Midgets A/AA dropped a 4-2 decision to Stratford in a hard fought chippy contest. The Warriors opened the scoring after roughing and unsportsmanlike calls on both sides with a goal at 8:33 of the first period and made it 2-0 at 7:17 in spite the edge in play held by Sarnia in the period.
Jeff Williams fired a quick shot and scored assisted by Devin Butler at 12:51 of the second to get the Jr. Sting on the board and close the gap. Stratford responded with a goal again at 8:11 to regain the two goal lead. Sarnia still maintained a 24 to 17 shots on goal advantage at the end of two periods.
Nolan Ryan took the puck away through persistence behind the Warriors goal and backhanded it in for a shorthanded goal early in the third. Towards the end of the third Stratford seemed to take the momentum away leading to a goal with about 5 minutes left. Sarnia couldn’t respond as the Warriors sensed the win. The final shots on goal were even at 27.
