September 20, 2012

The Alvinston Indians opened their best 3 out of 5 St. Thomas & District Major Fastball League Playoff Finals against the St. Thomas Storm on Wednesday evening on home turf.

All started off well for the Indians, with Jamie Shields driving in Craig Lyons for the first run of the game, after Lyons had previously singled to lead off the inning, in the third inning. In the fourth inning, the Indians struck again when Alix Chisholm doubled and then scored on an RBI single by Doug Charlton. Lyons then followed yet again with a two run homerun to bust the game open by a 4-0 score.

Kyle Crawford was cruising through the game for the Indians until the fifth inning when Aaron Gould doubled down the left field line, and eventually scored on a Crawford wild pitch on a very close play at the plate, for St. Thomas' first run. The next inning for St. Thomas, a three run homerun by Jamie Peat would square the game at 4, making it a new game. And then in the seventh, St. Thomas was at it again, when Matt Lynch hit a two run bomb, making the score 6-4, which was the eventual final score in favour of St. Thomas.

Ryan Cummings got the win for St. Thomas going the distance in the game, and allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits, and he had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Crawford sufffered the loss for Alvinston, pitching seven innings, and allowing 6 earned runs on 6 hits, with 4 walks, and 10 strikeouts.
