The Alvinston
Indians opened their best 3 out of 5 St. Thomas
& District Major Fastball League Playoff Finals
against the St. Thomas Storm on Wednesday
evening on home turf.
All started off well
for the Indians, with Jamie Shields driving in
Craig Lyons for the first run of the game, after
Lyons had previously singled to lead off the
inning, in the third inning. In the fourth
inning, the Indians struck again when Alix
Chisholm doubled and then scored on an RBI
single by Doug Charlton. Lyons then followed yet
again with a two run homerun to bust the game
open by a 4-0 score.
Kyle Crawford was
cruising through the game for the Indians until
the fifth inning when Aaron Gould doubled down
the left field line, and eventually scored on a
Crawford wild pitch on a very close play at the
plate, for St. Thomas' first run. The next
inning for St. Thomas, a three run homerun by
Jamie Peat would square the game at 4, making it
a new game. And then in the seventh, St. Thomas
was at it again, when Matt Lynch hit a two run
bomb, making the score 6-4, which was the
eventual final score in favour of St. Thomas.
Ryan Cummings got
the win for St. Thomas going the distance in the
game, and allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits, and
he had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Crawford
sufffered the loss for Alvinston, pitching seven
innings, and allowing 6 earned runs on 6 hits,
with 4 walks, and 10 strikeouts.
Game 2 goes tomorrow
night in Fingal at 8:00pm.
