Jacob Williams To Compete at 2013 Canadian Optimist Junior Golf National Championships

Fourteen year old Jacob Williams will be competing at the 2013 Optimist International Golf Championships that will take place at the Fanshawe Golf and Country Club in London, Ontario from Monday August 19th to Wednesday August 21st.
Williams former student at Gregory Hogan who will be attending grade nine in the fall at St. Patrick's High School has been playing golf for three years and is currently a member of Huron Oaks - Greenwood Golf Courses. This is the second trip to the Nationals after competing in the 12 - 13 age division in 2012.
To qualify for the National Championships Williams placed second in July at the Sarnia, Brights Grove and area qualifier for Southwestern Ontario held at Huron Oaks. On July 8th Williams competed in Blenheim at the Southwestern District Championship where a score of 88 or better was needed to qualify for the Nationals. Williams finished with a score of 87 that earned him a spot in the National event.
At the National event the format will be a round robin competition and after 36 holes of competition there will be a cut with the top 10 and ties will compete in the third day championship round. The Champion will be eligible to apply for entry into the 2014 Optimist International Championships in Florida at the PGA Golf Course. The top three finishers in each age division will receive an exemption to the 2014 Canadian Optimist Junior Golf National Championships.
Other divisions competing include Boys ages 12-13 and 15-18. Girls division includes ages 10-14 and15-18.
Besides being an avid golfer Williams played hockey in the winter season for the Sarnia Jr Sting AA and looks forward to trying out again this upcoming season.
