An exciting week yet again in the McDonald's Atom House League hockey was had last Saturday. After a much needed, and much earned week off the teams were back in action at Clearwater arena with the McDonald's sponsored teams Yellow facing Red, Green playing Blue, White battling Black, and Orange contesting Grey.

The first game of the morning surely woke everyone from hibernation with 10 goals being pounded home. McDonald's Red’s Tyler Caron opened the scoring very shortly into the game off the Austin Bishop pass. But not even thirty seconds later, Nolan Jennings buried the Dawson Howes feed to knot the game up. Caron put away his second goal moments after that however to regain the lead. The score remained 2-1 until with just under three minutes left in the first, Matteo Troiani spread the lead to 3-1 for Red. In the second, Bishop and Troiani put away their second goals each, and Zack Pearson spread the Red lead to 6-1. Nolan Jennings took exception though, and added his second goal to cut the lead to 6-2. In the third period, Caron finished his hat trick off the feed from Lucas Davidson, and Janzen Wark finished off the Justis Lapier pass to ice the game at 8-2.

In the second game, McDonald's Green and Blue proved to be matched up as evenly as can be. The first period belonged to Green. Jack Symington let go of a laser to open the scoring half way through the frame. And with 1:00 left on the clock, Costa Columbo teed off on the Joe McNeil pass to push Green ahead 2-0. But Blue seemed to catch a gust of wind in between periods. To open the second, Drake Earle capitalized on the feed from Christian D’Agostini and Matt Stojcevski to cut the lead in half. Six minutes later, the danger line for Blue teamed up once again, when this time D’Agostini was the goal scorer, and Earle notched the assist. The game was now tied heading into the third and the teams each geared up for a battle in the last period.

Game three saw McDonald's White and Black face off in a real barn burner of a match up. White’s Jacob Graham opened the scoring minutes into the game (assists to Chris Blair and Jackson Fawdry). The score remained 1-0 until Black’s Ivan Lange and Sebastien Fraser teamed up to pull their team even. In the second, White jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two quick goals by Thomas Field and Luke West (Christal Riley, and Gregory Van Heyst on the assists) Black answered to cut the lead to 3-2 after a goal from Tony Vario (Kevin and Pat Gray on the assists.) And in the third, the teams traded goals. White’s Thomas Field netted his second of the game, and Black’s Ethan Charron answered giving assists to Ivan Lange and Jacob Roe. This game ended up with a 4-3 win for the White team.

The last game of the morning was yet another hair-raising finish in Atom House League. McDonald's Orange and Grey took to the ice and used every last second to secure the win. The first period opened with a Grey goal from the stick of Josh Grant (Kyle Fraser on the assist) from here, the game remained scoreless for the remainder of the first, and through the entire second period. Until the third, Grant added his second of the game to stretch the lead to 2-0. But the, with 6:18 left on the clock, Orange caught fire. Brandon Conrad opened the Orange scoring off the assist from Quinn Schmidt, and Ben Lyford. Then, just four minutes later, Conrad and Schmidt teamed up again to tie the game. And then just to keep the cardiac wing of St. Joe’s busy on a Saturday morning, with 0:09 left on the clock, Jimmy Bennett sniped home the game winner sending his team into a frenzy. Schmidt picked up his third assist on the play.
