Petrolia Squires Wins Series and Moves on to Semi Finals

The Petrolia came from behind and defeated Tillsonburg after winning four consecutive games in Round 1 of WOAA Senior AA Playoff action.


Leading up to Friday nights game the Tillsonburg Thunder lead the series 2 - 1. 

On Friday the Squires tied the series at home taking a 3 - 2 win in overtime.

 

First period action went scoreless. At 8:45 in the second Greg Bailey gave the Squires the 1 - 0 lead.  In the third period the two sides went back and forth with Tillsonburg tying it up at 5:45 by Pat Ouellet.  Petrolia answered back to regain the lead at 7:51 with Jason McPhail scoring.

At 9:07 Tillsonburg scored the tying goal by Curtis Maracle and the period would end sending the game into over time. 

At 8:32 into overtime Tyler Lewis scored the winning goal for the Squires.  The win tied the series 2 - 2.

Shots on Goal were even with 46 each.  Chris Houle earned the win in net for the Squires.

 

On Saturday the Squires travelled to Tillsonburg for game four and took the series lead for the first time with the 5 - 3 win.

 

In the first period Scott McPhail led the Squires scoring at 3:42.  Tillsonburg answered back at 13:04 with Travis Lisabeth scoring and at 14:29 Tyler Haddon scored to give the Squires the 2 - 1 lead heading into the second.

 

Jesse Drydak widened the Squires lead at 5:15 into the second.  Mike Findlay scored at 11:42 to narrow the gap 3 - 2 and Jesse Drydak gave the Squires the two point lead at 16:36.

 

In the third Tillsonburg continued to fight back and at 14:44 came within one once again on a goal scored by Adam Vandepoele.  As time was running out in the final minute Tillsonburg pulled their goalie for the extra man attack only to have Chris McGuffin find the empty net and scoring the final goal with 53 seconds remaining.

 

Tillsonburg outshot the Squires 53 - 34.  Net minder Chris Houle once again earned the win.

 

On Sunday the two teams were back in Petrolia and the Squires won the game and the series with a final score of 2 - 1.

 

Petrolia now moves on to the next round where they will take on Tavistock.  Schedule not yet released.
