Petrolia Squires Dropped Two Games in Weekend Playoff Action

Petrolia Squires dropped two games in WOAA Senior AA semi finals series on weekend series against the Tavistock Royals.

In game one the teams met in Petrolia and the Royals took a 6 - 2 win over the Squires.  The Royals went up 3 - 1 in the first period and never looked back.  Both sides added a a single in the second period and the Royals went on and scored two more in the third.

Greg Virgo led the Royals with two goals.  Tyler Towsend, Cody Hall, Shaun Reerts each scored singles.  Tyler Cicchinni and Brendan Bellan scored for the Squires.

Netminder Evan Groenestege earned the win for the Royals turning away 30 shots, Chris Houle took the loss with 28 saves.

In game two the Squires travelled to Tavistock and came home with a 3 - 1 loss.

The Royals took a 1 - 0 lead after the first period.  Both sides scored in the second and in the third Tavistock added the insurance goal to take the win.

Greg Virgo scored the first goal for the Royals and Cody Hall scored two.  Scott McPhail scored the lone goal for the Squires on a power play.

The Royals outshot the Squires 40 - 30.  Chris Houle took his second loss in net for the Squires.  Doug Groenestege earned the win.

Tavistock leads the series two games to zero.

Game three is set to be played on Friday March 1 at 8:30 at the Greenwood Recreation Centre in Petrolia and return to Tavistock for game five on Saturday March 2 at 8:30.
