The Sarnia Legionnaires have obtained former Michigan high school hockey star Corey Giffel from the Elliot Lake Bobcats.

Giffel, who played in the state high school all-star game last winter, has joined the Western Jr. 'B' club in time for tonight's game against the St. Thomas Stars.

The puck drop at the Brock Street Barn is set for 7:10 p.m.

Giffel, who stands six feet tall and weighs 181 pounds, is a centre/rightwinger who was obtained from the Bobcats of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

He had two goals and six assists (plus two shootout goals) during 17 games with Elliot Lake this campaign.

Last year, he helped his high school team reach the state quarter-finals.

Legionnaire coach Dan Rose describes the 18-year-old as one of the top players in Michigan.

Rose said the team is trying to obtain another player as well. The trade deadline for Jr. 'B' teams is set for midnight.
