Sarnia Sabre's Atom Red Machine Captured Championship

The Atom Red Machine team captured the gold medal in the recent Sarnia Hockey House League Christmas tournament.

This was a classic rags to riches story in its true sense. At the beginning of the season the Red Machine struggled having lost their first seven games. Although they were in every game the team just could not close out at the buzzer. Finally after enjoying their first victory the team began to get their confidence back. Since then the team has gone undefeated in their last 11 games and has shown great progress.

The Christmas tournament was a great venue to prove that this team is for real. In the first round of action the team won vs. Black 9 - 5, defeated the Mooretown Storm 2 - 1 and tied Orange 2 - 2. Advancing to the semi-finals the team defeated first seeded Yellow 5-2 enroute to the championship game vs. Orange. The Atom Orange Crush has had a similar season to that of Red as they too were in the bottom of the table after the first few weeks of competition. This match would prove worthy of its competition as both teams came to play!

Red would open the scoring early on a beautiful goal by Aiden Healey. Orange would counter scoring a nice goal on a great passing play.

In the second period Red would take the lead as defenceman Mateo Troiani, would stickhandle his way around the Orange defence and net the top shelf of the twine. Zack Pearson would close out the scoring in the third period on a nice rush up ice to secure the Championship!

Great effort on both parts as parents and fans went home witnessing a very high action exciting final!
