Sarnia Legionnaires Came From Behind but Lost in OT against Chatham

The Sarnia Legionnaires were in Chatham on Sunday and suffered at 6 - 5 over time loss against the Maroons in Greater Ontario Jr B Hockey League action.

 

Chatham led after the first period 1 - 0 after scoring a power play goal at 5:41 by Brennan Feasey.  In the second Feasey added the Maroons second goal just :31 seconds into the period.  The two teams then shared power play goals with Steve Farlow scoring for Sarnia at 1:50 and later in the period at 16:33 Chatham added their third goal with Sean Myers scoring.  At 17:04 Chatham widened their lead to 4 - 1 on a goal scored by Connor Doran.

 

In the third period Alexander Morgan gave Chatham a 5 - 1 spread at 13:39.  But the Legionnaires never gave up and went on and scored four goals in the final period that sent the game into overtime.

 

Nathan Mater led the comeback by scoring an unassisted goal  goal at 14:58.  Brent Sauve added the next goal at 16:11 and :24 seconds later Jason Teschke narrowed the gap to 5 - 4 and in the last minute with and goalie pulled Teschke scored his second for the tie and sent the game into overtime.

 

In overtime at 3:45 the Legionnaires took a costly penalty that gave Chatham the five on four advantage for the remainder of the over time period and with one second remaining Michael Verboom scored the power play goal to give Chatham the over time win.

 

Darien Ekblad earned the win for Chatham with 29 saves.  Sean Parker took the loss with 51 saves that included 6 in over time and one penalty shot in the third period.

 

Sarnia went one for seven on the power play, Chatham went three for eight.

 

The Legionnaires remain in seventh place three points ahead of Lambton Shores.  Next up the Legionnaires will host the Predators on Thursday January 24.  Game time 7:10 at the Sarnia Arena.


The Legionnaires will be holding a cookie blast bake and other fundraising events at this game.  Proceeds will be donated to the St. Joseph Hospice in memory of Sharon Williamson.
