Alvinston Indians Defeat Astros

wednesday july 17, 2013

The Alvinston Indians traveled down the highway to face the Glencoe Astros on a hot and humid Tuesday evening.

The Indians got to work immediately off of Glencoe starter Brian Lilley.  Craig Lyons singled for the Indians to lead off the game, and Jamie Shields followed with a double to score C. Lyons.  Jeff Lyons then came up to the plate and hit a 2 run bomb, making the score 3-0.  Alvinston added a pair of runs in the third off of Glencoe reliever Kyle Mitchell, when C. Lyons reached base via an error, and brother J. Lyons singled, and with one out in the inning, Aaron Stocking singled to score both Lyons'.  In the fourth inning, Brad Cooper and Steve Lyons both reached base via errors by the Glencoe defence, and with two out, J. Lyons singled up the middle to score both Cooper and S. Lyons. The Indians added their final run, their ninth of the contest, in the top of the fifth inning, when C. Lyons doubled home Cooper, who had reached base via a fielder's choice.

Kyle Crawford went the first two innings for Alvinston allowing no runs, no hits, and he had 4 strikeouts, to earn the win.  Jeff Lyons came in in relief in the third inning, and tossed three innings of ball, allowing three walks, three hits, and 1 run.  Ryan Gray hit a sacrifice fly for Glencoe, to drive in Ben Shields, for Glencoe's lone run in the contest.

The final score was Alvinston 9, Glencoe 1.  Alvinston is now 13-2 on the season, and faces a tough opponent on Thursday, when they travel to Fingal, to play the Shedden Mission, at 8:00pm.
