Sarnia-Lambton was well represented at the 56th Annual Francis J. Robinson Memorial Tournament, which took place at Sanborn Park in Port Huron from July 15-21. The ďRobinsonĒ is one of the longest running community tennis tournaments in the United States, with divisions ranging from 10 & under to 65 & over. It is the highlight of the local area summer tennis calendar. 24 Sarnia- Lambton players participated, with 4 winning events and 8 reaching the finals and 9 the semi finals.
Veterans Terry Lamberton and Gail Furlan and Junior Andrew Davies captured 2 titles each. Furlan won the 55s Womenís singles and combined with Lamberton to win the 55s Womenís doubles . Lamberton also won the 55s Mixed doubles with a partner from Port Huron. Davies won the 14s Boys doubles and the 14s Mixed doubles with partners from the Port Huron area. Jaxon Bore won the 10s Boys singles after being finalist in the event in 2012.
Evan Duggal (10s) and Ethan Jones (12s) were finalists in their respective Boys singles flights, while Clara and Catherine Rastin reached the 16s Girls doubles final. Jaxon Bore , Betty Latosinsky, Janice Taylor and Tino DiBattista made the final of the 12s Boys doubles, 35s Mixed doubles, 45s Womenís doubles and 55s Menís doubles, respectively.
There were also many local semifinalists in the tournament, including Evan Duggal and Chris Latosinsky (12s Boys doubles), Andrew Davies (14s Boys singles), Michael Coleman (Menís Open singles and doubles), Marian Polakavic (45s Menís singles), Damon Laplante (45s Menís doubles) and Gail Furlan (55s Mixed doubles). On the girlís and womenís side, semifinalists included Catherine Rastin (16s singles) and Betty Latosinsky (35s singles and 45s doubles).
Other area participants were Conor Jones and Ryan Davies (Boys 10s), Matt Mullen (35s Mixed doubles ), Geoff Bore (35s Menís singles, doubles and mixed doubles), Bruce Davies (45s Menís singles and doubles), John Baxter (45s Menís doubles), Gabrielle and Nick Gogas (Open Mixed doubles ), and Amelia Laplante (Open Mixed doubles ).
