Alvinston Indians take Road Win

tuesday july 30, 2013

Alvinston travelled to Fingal on Monday evening, to play the St. Thomas Storm, in what would be their final matchup of the regular season.

The Indians sent young 20 year old Ty Sebastian to the mound, against the veteran Storm team, and he did not disappoint.  After allowing an unearned run in the second inning, as Jamie Peat scored, Sebastian was dominant the rest of the way for the Indians.  Alvinston came to bat in the top of the third, and finally got their bats going.  Eric Hyatt reached base via an error, and Andy Triest reached base via a bunt.  Craig Lyons reached base via a fielder's choice, that eliminated Hyatt at third base.  With one out, Jamie Shields singled to score Triest, and with two out, Aaron Stocking had a clutch RBI single, to score both C. Lyons, and J. Lyons who was in running for Shields.  With a 3-1 lead, Alvinston would add one more run in the top of the fifth, when Jeff Lyons clubbed a first pitch over the right-centre field fence, for a solo homerun.

The final score was 4-1, as Sebastian was dominant on the mound for the Indians.  In seven innings of work, he allowed one run, but it was unearned, and he allowed 4 hits and 4 walks, as well as striking out 6 Storm swingers.  Dan Beecroft through effectively for the Storm in a losing effort, allowing seven hits and two walks, while fanning 10 Alvinston batters.

The Indians are now 16-3 on the season, and travel to Springfield tomorrow evening, for an 8:30 tilt with the red-hot Springfield Brewers.
